Eric James

OBMG Board Member

Captain Eric James was born in Saint Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. Growing up in the islands is where Captain James’ interest in the maritime industry began.  He was fortunate to have an opportunity to attend high school in Massachusetts at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High and graduated there in 1989.

Eric continued his maritime interests and was admitted to Maine Maritime Academy. He graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nautical Science and a USCG license as a 3rd Mate Deck Officer.

After graduation, Eric went to work with the Military Sealift Command working on an Oiler in the Caribbean. He later got a position on the Great Lakes where he worked for Harrah’s and obtained pilotage for Buffington Harbor and part of Lake Michigan.

In 2000, Captain James was taken as an Apprentice Pilot on the Delaware River. Since his completion of the apprenticeship in 2003, Mr. James has been a partner with the Pilots’ Association for the Bay and River Delaware guiding ships from sea to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and all ports along the river in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Captain James is proud to be a member of such a progressive organization as the OBMG and enjoys giving back by helping young professionals in the Maritime Industry.
